Abstract

The results of the last Colombian National Agricultural Census do not account for the sociocultural factors that determine the rationality and willingness to innovate. The objective of this work is to characterize the critical variables for the technical change of the horticultural production of the Colombian Caribbean. Based on primary data, a cluster analysis is performed. The results indicate some discriminant variables: gender, land tenure, educational level, access to public services, access to credit, type and status of rural access roads, horticultural area and experience, labor and self-consumption. It is concluded that the producer typology allows for an improved planning of inclusive public investment and technological linking strategies for the horticultural sector.
