Sedeterminaron 4 regiones cuya caracterización presenta una relación entre el desarrollo social de losdepartamentos y el tipo de explotación agropecuaria.DISTRICTS GROUPING ACCORDING TO DEMOGRAPHIC, AGRICULTURAL AND ECONOMIC DIMENSIONSAbstractUntil now, the regionalization of La Rioja-Argentina has only taken into account aspects of production. This projectaims at typifying the districts of the province by taking into account socioeconomic indicators which involve thefollowing aspects: economy, demography and agriculture. The inclusion of these dimensions creates a morecomprehensive look to the districts, along with the analysis between them. This research takes quantitative approach and an observational, cross-sectional, descriptive and correlationaldesign.A total of ten indicators were used for each of the 18 districts and they were reduced to two dimensions by themultivariate technique of main components. Then, hierarchical cluster analysis was applied to determine fourregions overall. The first component is related to farming operation and the second one to social development.Four regions were identified and their characterization presents a relationship between the social development ofthe districts and the type of farming operation.Key Words: Multivariate; social indicators; principal components, cluster analysis.
