Transformaciones de la narrativa norteamericana en la articulación de los siglos XX y XXI

Resumen

Hacia fines del siglo XX, en el campo intelectual, se registran una serie de reflexiones críticas que puedenleerse como verdaderos manifiestos y testimonios que dan cuenta de un periodo que configuró una bisagraen la narrativa del siglo pasado. Este artículo explica que David Foster Wallace es un autor central paracomprender este proceso pues brinda un registro privilegiado de la literatura de los Estados Unidos en suarticulación con el nuevo milenio. Su obra da cuenta de los cambios que se están gestando en el ambienteliterario de la nueva generación a la que pertenece, al mismo tiempo que propone una salida de una formade reproducción artística y cultural que se había vuelto hegemónica. Su obra ensayística y susintervenciones públicas a través de entrevistas iluminan su obra de ficción, definida por la críticaespecializada como un nuevo tipo de realismo, cuyas raíces ahondan en la tradición de la novela.AbstractTowards the end of the XXth century, in the intellectual field, there emerged a series of critical reflexions thatcan be interpreted as real manifestos and testimonies that account for a period of transition with the narrativethat prevailed during that century. This article explains that David Foster Wallace is a central author tounderstand this process because he provides a privileged register of the literature of the United States in itsarticulation with the new millennium. His work shows the changes that are developing within the literary fieldof the new generation to which he belongs, and at the same time it proposes a way out from a form of artisticand cultural production that had become hegemonic.
