Abstract

This paper invites the reader to engage with the body of Nora Helmer—the protagonist of A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen—and with the bodies of the actresses who embody her on stage. It proposes a continuous dialogue between Ibsen’s original play and two subsequent reinterpretations of the character: Dear Ibsen, I Am Nora by Griselda Gambaro, and Images of a Closing Door, written and performed by Theatre Arts students from the National University of La Rioja. Grounded in the theory of the semiotics of the body, the analysis focuses on the spatial arrangement and presence of bodies on stage, exploring how these bodies gradually become emancipated over time through new modes of signification and performative expression.
