DESCRIPCIONES DE LA CIUDAD DE LA RIOJA A TRAVÉS DEL TIEMPO.

La Rioja cuenta con 427 años de existencia.ii Es una de las 14 provincias fundacionales de Argentina. La primera descripción encontrada sobre la ciudad de La Rioja, o tal vez la primera expresión de deseo fue la carta de Juan Ramírez de Velasco enviada al rey en 1592 dando cuenta de su viaje a Famatina y en ella opina que su “Ciudad va en mucho acrecentamiento y entiendo ha de ser la mejor de las Indias, está a quince leguas de Famatina por el camino de la sierra y cuarenta por los llanos que descubrí este último. Dase buen trigo, maíz, cebada y según van mostrándose las plantas se darán todas las de Castilla”.
En este artículo se pretende reconstruir a partir de archivos y reflexión bibliográfica parte de ese rico pasado que la caracteriza. La propuesta es rescatar las crónicas que describen las transformaciones que la ciudad de La Rioja fue atravesando a lo largo de la historia, desde los Jesuitas hasta principios del siglo XX.
DESCRIPTIONS OF THE CITY OF LA RIOJA ACROSS THE TIME
Abstract
La Rioja has existed for 427 years. It is one of the fourteen founding provinces of Argentina. The first description that has been found about the city of La Rioja, or maybe, the first expression of desire, was the letter that Juan Ramirez de Velasco sent to the king in 1592, in which he told him about his trip to Famatina. In the letter he says: “The city is growing a lot and I understand that it will be the best of the Indias, it is fifteen leagues away from Famatina through the road of the mountains and forty through the plains. It has good wheat, corn, barley and as it has been shown that all the plants from Castile will flourish ”This paper aims to reconstruct, from files and literature review, part of that rich past which characterizes the city.
The proposal is to rescue the chronicles which describe the transformations that the city of La Rioja has been through along its history, since the Jesuits time until the beginning of the 20th century.
