Abstract

According to Jacques Le Goff, the lived history is our historical reality as it really happened, but it is also a construction of knowledge derived from a historian’s own interpretation. This knowledge questions our present and the past to provide the answers. In order to answer this question we choose a paradigm, that is, a general frame of ideas that we have about reality. At a specific time period, there can be as many paradigms as ways of viewing reality, but there is always one which prevails over the others and determines the time period.In that sense, what did the critical paradigm and the theory of conflict provide to history? When we say “critical” we do not mean to criticise or judge. It is possible, then, to advance in history and stop thinking of “heroes” and acts, and replace them by the history of the peoples.
