Abstract

This text will focus on the relevant aspects of the myth introduced by Mircea Elíade and Joseph Campbell, to interpret a contemporary phenomenon called Star Trek. Nowadays, Star Trek is considered a Myth and its actors are legendary in the film universe. At present, folk allows us to observe this essentially cultural phenomenon. Myths and legends, which have a principle of reality, are the source of knowledge of intra- history and of the cultural heritage of every present and past society. Not only are we interested in people (famous like Trekkie) who passionately follow what Star Trek causes, but we are also interested in the utopic message that it transmits: utopia and myth together, utopia of the lost Paradise in the future where the epic of the great time develops. The world is once again a social and natural Paradise, and that is the place where our heroes come from, taking the utopic message to the universe, to where the man has never been before. The analysis will focus on the original series and on the last film, the other series and films will be mentioned or examples will be given only to clarify some concepts. What‟s the structure, function and symbology of the myth nowadays? The last decades of the 20th century, and the first one of the 21st century, are the times where images say more than written words. Great symbologies of the new cultural model of omnipresent technology, which emphasize the new conceptions of the past, the present and the future, embody a great mimesis. That puts folk in a place of privilege in the interactions that are generated between present, past and future inhabitants. The new utopias that are embodied in trekkies, and the community reproduction (of their language, heroes, technologies, cultures and everything that refers to the mythology of the Trekkie universe) have become the object of study of urban folk. We believe that we are at the end of a long journey towards the consumerist nothing, which affects us in every way. And it is at the end of this past where a new period with its own folk and mythology starts.
