REESCRITURAS FEMINISTAS: JUNE JORDAN/ADRIENNE RICH Y SU APROPIACIÓN DE TEXTOS CANÓNICOS

Resumen

Adrienne Rich, en uno de sus ensayos, utiliza el término “re-vision” para denominar la apropiación quealgunas artistas contemporáneas hacen de textos canónicos, con un abordaje que, desde una miradaesencialmente feminista, intenta romper con el dominio de la tradición. En uno de sus poemas, que lleva elmismo título que el famoso poema de John Donne, “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning”, Rich desafía laconcepción idealista del amor heterosexual y le dice adiós a su vida pasada, no solo en cuanto a supreferencia sexual sino también textual. Por su parte, June Jordan, que en su poesía hace uso de la palabrapara resistir los abusos de poder y las violaciones a la dignidad que oprimen a las mujeres, sobre todo a lasmujeres negras, re-escribe en su poema “The Female and the Silence of a Man” el poema de William B.Yeats “Leda and the Swan”, desde la perspectiva de una mujer negra. El análisis de estas dos re-escriturasen clave feminista será el eje central del presente trabajo con el fin de indagar en los procedimientosempleados por cada poeta desde su posicionamiento y su activismo personal. Así, se intenta establecer unacomparación y contraste de las diferentes maneras de apropiarse de estos poemas y los mecanismosutilizados para desplazarse hacia esa nueva composición que se despega del intertexto. FEMINIST REPHRASING: JUNE JORDAN / ADRIENNE RICH AND THEAPPROPRIATION OF CANONICAL TEXTSAbstractIn one of her essays Adrienne Rich utilizes the concept of “re-vision” to talk about the way in which somecontemporary women artists make use of cannonical texts. From an essentially feminist approach, they tryto break with the hold of tradition. Rich herself in one of her poems, which she names after the famous poemby John Donne, “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning,” defies the idealist conception of heterosexual love andleaves behind her past self, not only as regards her sexual preference but also the textual one. Another poet,June Jordan, who by means of words resists the abuse of power and the violations against dignity that aresuffered by women, mainly by black women, re-writes in her poem “The Female and the Silence of a Man”the poem “Leda and the Swan” by William B. Yeats, from the perspective of a black woman. The analysis ofthese two feminist re-writings is the core of this essay, which dwells in the procedures used by each poetfrom their own personal positioning and activism.
