Abstract
The Book of Portraiture and IN & OZ, written by the American author Steve Tomasula, are representative
novels of a growing aesthetic tendency in the last decades. These novels can be considered books-objects of
art due to their graphic design, their peculiar typography and page color, therefore making the tridimensionality
of the book foregrounding. In these novels the textual and the paratextual are woven as to be inseparable. So,
the characters of both novels are artists, from Diego Velázquez in The Book of Portraiture to the neophyte
Mechanic in IN & OZ.
