SAM SHEPARD Y LA TRANSFIGURACIÓN DEL OESTE

Resumen

A partir de la percepción del Oeste estadounidense –difundida, entre nosotros, principalmente por el cinecomoun territorio que privilegia la lucha por la supervivencia en una naturaleza hostil, y contrincantes deorigen diverso -desde los habitantes originarios hasta blancos desplazados, con diversos grados de incivilidady/o delincuencia-, se privilegia la idea de situaciones con diversos grados de complejidad y violencia. Por algodijo Borges alguna vez que el “Western” había logrado rescatar la épica que la literatura olvidó. En su copiosaobra teatral Sam Shepard crea un Oeste cuya hostilidad no deriva de su geografía, más allá de su excelenteuso de lo emblemático o simbólico, sino que alberga conflictos de tipo psicológico y familiar.
