This paper aims to explore the relations between literature and cinema through Truman Capote's novel In Cold Blood (1966) and Bennett Miller's film Capote (2005).
In these works we can see a marked contrast between the novel's attempt to erase the writer/journalist and his restitution in the movie. Along the film we can see a search, from the script, the structure and the montage, to restore the centrality of the writer/journalist as a character and his active role in the journalistic investigation and the writing process. Also, the film's representation of Harper Lee —-as a figure present in the novel but only in the place of the paratext— stands out.
In addition, we will analyze the different strategies of humanization of the figure of Perry Smith in each work.
