ESCRITURA FEMENINA EN ESCENARIOS POST-APOCALÍPTICOS. DOS HISTORIAS DE VIOLENCIA: “EL ESLABÓN VULNERABLE” DE RACCOONA SHELDON Y “LOS SONIDOS DEL HABLA” DE OCTAVIA BUTLER

Abstract

A pesar de que durante la mayoría de su desarrollo histórico el género post-apocalíptico ha sido
predominantemente de autoría masculina, la contribución femenina se ha ido incrementando paralelamente
con la creciente participación de las mujeres en el campo de la ciencia ficción. Pero ¿qué es lo que ha llevado
a las mujeres a interesarse crecientemente en este género? Y ¿qué caracteriza a las ficciones postapocalípticas
femeninas en relación con el paradigma masculino dominante? Para responder, aunque sea
parcialmente, a estos interrogantes se analizarán los relatos “El eslabón vulnerable”, de Racoona Sheldon y
“Los sonidos del habla”, de Octavia Butler”, desde un marco teórico-crítico feminista centrado en la
representación de la mujer en contextos de violencia.

FEMALE WRITING IN POST-APOCALYPTIC SCENARIOS. TWO STORIES ABOUT VIOLENCE: THE SCREWFLY SOLUTION” BY RACCOONA SHELDON AND “SPEECH SOUNDS” BY OCTAVIA BUTLER

Abstract

Even though during most of the historic development of post-apocalyptic fiction the authors of the genre were
predominantly male, the female contribution has been increasing in parallel with the growing participation of
women in the science fiction field. But, ¿what really has led women to be more and more interested in this
genre? And ¿What characterizes female post-apocalyptic fictions in front of the predominant male paradigm?
In serch of an answer, albeit partial, for these questions it will discuss the short stories “The Screwfly Solution”,
by Raccoona Sheldon and “Speech Sounds”, by Octavia Butler from a feminist critical and theoretical
framework and focusing on the representation of women in contexts of violence.
