This text attempts to organize and systematize, even if as an introduction, the development of feminist
thought and praxis. We start from the challenge of defining feminism and along the way we explain two
questions. First of all, the need to mention it in the plural: feminisms. Secondly, the complexity of giving
a single, complete definition to the concept of feminism.
We expose how various thinkers inside and outside the academy have contributed to social and
philosophical thinking with concepts and approaches that today allow us to analyze a reality that we
recognize as unfair and unequal and that we intend to transform. Along this path, we understand that
the framework of concepts such as patriarchy, gender, heteronorm, sexual division of labor, among
others, have a history and the same occurs with the various feminisms.
