Abstract

The visual arts during the 1980s and 1990s, a historic moment in La Rioja, Argentina, were sustained by a great artistic activity linked to great and renowned international, national, and local artists. In the province, artists have been worthy ambassadors on several occasions. At the end of the 20th century, there was a correlation with cultural policy that promoted cultural life and, within it, the development of the arts, fostering the dissemination of all activities in the area, seeking the participation of society at large and the private sector in all its activities. In this sense, Rustique is fundamental to artistic development and promotion. This art gallery was inaugurated in 1984. This space generated special interest among the population and an appreciation for local artists. The gallery helped mobilize interest and investment in art by a society eager for social prestige.
