Historical memory: the tribute to el Chacho in the context of the first provincial peronism of 1946

Abstract

This paper deals with the celebration of the tribute dedicated to General Ángel Vicente Peñaloza, "El Chacho",in Loma Blanca, La Rioja, Argentina. This event took place in November 1946, on the 80th anniversary of hisassassination; We can also contextualize it within a long tradition of commemorations of the caudillos andheroes in Argentina and in the Province, since the first decades of the twentieth century. In this sense, we willhighlight the first initiatives of historical vindication of this popular leader during the first Peronist governmentof of the province of La Rioja, focusing, briefly, on the cultural policy of Governor José "Pancho" Francisco deLa Vega, who had family ties with Peñaloza, Victoria Romero, other caudillos and referents of La Riojanrevisionism. This paper highlights the need to understand the process of constitution of the Llanisto hero. as aprocess sustained over time and made possible by the adhesion of different social sectors.
