LA TEORÍA LITERARIA A COMIENZO DEL SIGLO XXI: POST-POSTMODERNIDAD EN LAS LETRAS ESTADOUNIDENSES

Resumen

La influencia del posmodernismo en la producción cultural de la última
década del siglo XX y la primera del siglo XXI parece haber decrecido,
al tiempo que una nueva dominante estética y cultural está tomando su
lugar. ¿Ha terminado la era del posmodernismo? ¿Qué nuevo paradigma
estético rige la producción literaria y artística de nuestra era? Recientemente
estas preguntas han sido planteadas en foros académicos y en una vasta
bibliografía teórico-crítica. La respuesta a dichos interrogantes parece ser
una nueva estructura de sentimiento denominada Post-posmodernismo, una
denominación general para varias teorías. Puede ser prematuro dictaminar la
muerte del posmodernismo, pero es claro que la producción literaria, artística
y arquitectónica de las últimas décadas no corresponde a paradigmas

posmodernistas. En este trabajo exploraremos las características del post-
posmodernismo a partir de los trabajos de los teóricos literarios Mary K.

Holland y Robert Rebein, y del escritor post-posmodernista, David Foster
Wallace.

LITERARY THEORY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XXIST CENTURY:
POST-POSTMODERNISM IN THE US LITERARY FIELD

ABSTRACT

Postmodernism’s influence in the cultural production of the last decade of
the XX century and first decade of the XXI century seems to have declined,
and a new aesthetic and cultural dominant is taking its place. Has the era of
Postmodernism ended? What new aesthetic paradigm rules over literary and
artistic production in our times? In recent years these questions have been
addressed in academic forums, and in a vast body of theoretical and critical
bibliography. The answer seems to be a new structure of feeling denominated
Post-postmodernism, a general term to designate many theories. Maybe
it is too early to declare the demise of Postmodernism, but it is clear, that
what literature, as well as architecture and art, produced in the last decades,
does not respond to postmodern paradigms. In this work we will explore
the characteristics of Post-postmodernism based on the works of theorists
Mary K. Holland and Robert Rebein, and writer of the post-postmodernist
generation, David Foster Wallace.
