LA NARRATIVA ESTADOUNIDENSE HACIA FINES DEL SIGLO XX

Abstract

El contexto de la narrativa estadounidense hacia fines del siglo XX se mantiene mediante el impulso de
décadas anteriores. La etapa posmoderna, pareciera extinguirse afectada por el mismo fenómeno que le
había dado vida. Es así que, en el campo intelectual, se registran una serie de reflexiones críticas y
metaliterarias que pueden leerse hoy en día como verdaderos manifiestos y testimonios que funcionan como
una bisagra en la narrativa del periodo. David Foster Wallace, es sin lugar a dudas, el autor que anticipa esta
nueva etapa, y quien diseña los rasgos de la nueva subjetividad que caracterizará a los jóvenes escritores del
periodo.

AMERICAN NARRATIVE IN LATE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract

The context of the American narrative towards the end of the 20th century is maintained by the impulse of
previous decades. The postmodern stage seems to be in a process of extinction, affected by the same
phenomenon that had given it life. Thus, in the intellectual field, a series of critical and metaliterary reflections
can be read today as true manifestos and testimonies that function as a hinge in the narrative of the period.
David Foster Wallace is, without a doubt, the author who anticipates this new stage, and who designs the
features of a new subjectivity that will characterize the young writers of the period.
