Este trabajo analiza el discurso contra-hegemónico en dos textos literarios
para niños en el contexto anglo-sajón: Deshawn Days (2001) de Tony Medina
y Otto (1999) de Tomi Ungerer. En especial se indagarán las representaciones
de la otredad y cómo éstas desafían estereotipos culturales que circulan en
el occidente. Desde una perspectiva intercultural, se analizarán los textos
literarios otros como material de lectura en la escuela, como puntos de
encuentro e interacción para el desarrollo de sociedades contemporáneas
respetuosas de la otredad.

TEXTS: CHALLENGES FOR AN INTERCULTURAL PEDAGOGY
ABSTRACT
This paper analyzes the counter-hegemonic discourse in two literary texts for
children in the Anglo-Saxon context: Deshawn Days (2001) by Tony Medina
and Otto (1999) by Tomi Ungerer. The focus will be in the representations
of otherness and how they defy cultural stereotypes that circulate in the
West. From an intercultural perspective, these texts will be seen as teaching
material at school to foster dialogue and interaction in the development of
contemporary societies that learn to be respectful of otherness.
